Immerse yourself in a vibrant tapestry of sound with “Mosaic,” a program that weaves together diverse musical traditions and contemporary voices.

Opening with Georg Philipp Telemann’s elegant Paris Quartet for flute, violin, cello, and piano, the journey begins with Baroque brilliance that set the stage for an exploration of musical colors and textures.

The first set presents Andile Khumalo’s evocative Wade through Water for clarinet and piano, a compelling contemporary work that blends South African and African American musical heritage and explores themes of journey and transformation through rich timbral contrasts and emotional depth. for clarinet and piano. Jessie Montgomery’s dynamic Play showcases lively interactions among flute, clarinet, violin, and cello, while the intimate Peace for violin and piano offers a reflective contrast, highlighting her ability to blend playful energy with profound emotional depth.

The second set unfolds with Clarice Assad’s Flight of the Fairies that captures the ethereal movements of mythical beings through shimmering textures, playful melodic exchanges, and gossamer harmonies.

David Lang’s minimalist Sweet Air creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere with its gentle sounds and subtle changes, inviting listeners to relax and reflect.  Next Florent Ghys’s whimsical Etude for 11 Faces intricately weaves musical lines with video images.

Jonathan Bailey Holland’s Mobius mirrors its mathematical namesake through seamlessly looping musical phrases and transforming motifs, creating an auditory illusion of infinite connection.

Fred Onovwerosuoke’s Nubian Dances No. 1 brings the full ensemble together to close the concert in a celebration of African-inspired rhythms and melodies.

Each piece contributes a unique voice to this musical mosaic, creating a kaleidoscopic experience that honors tradition while embracing innovation.
