The experience of hearing Picosa’s final programs of the season will be like walking through the world’s most exquisite historic spaces, whether Notre Dame, Himeji Castle, Machu Pichu, or the Great Pyramid of Giza.  Our first impression is to admire the beauty and grandeur, but to consider their craftsmanship and architecture truly brings us to a place of awe.  From Mozart’s delightful Flute Quartet in D Major, k. 285to Beethoven’s impassioned String Trio in c minor, Op. 9, No. 3 (an important key that is vital to his greatest works), we see two early career works that foreshadow the depth and greatness that is to come.  We can also describe Bach’s Musical Offering in c minor, BWV 1079 as among history’s great “architectural” works in its form and complexity.  However, it also musically represents the importance of his Lutheran faith both in its writing and his signature.  The piece, as in all of his music, closes with the initials “S.D.G.” – Soli Deo Gloria, “to God be the glory”.  Finally, Behzad Ranjbaran incorporates beloved Iranian musical elements into his trio.  Of this he writes “Fountains of Fin, (pronounced “feen”) celebrates one of the most enchanting gardens, the historical Garden of Fin in Kashan, Iran.”
